Coming to Apple OSes: A seamless, secure way to import and export passkeys

Apple has demonstrated a new feature which allows users to transfer credentials between different operating systems at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference, which will be available in the next major releases of iOS, iPadOS, macOS and visionOS.
The feature addresses a major drawback of password management authentication system passkeys, which has been criticised for lacking transferability and interoperability between different platforms.
The FIDO Alliance, the consortium developing the authentication standard, has been working on programming interfaces to make the system more flexible, and other companies, such as Google, are also developing new tools to allow for the import and export of passwords.
The new flexibility should encourage uptake of the cyber security measure and give users confidence that they will not be locked into any one product ecosystem.
