Broadcom ends business with VMware’s lowest-tier channel partners

Summary
Broadcom has removed the lowest tier, the Registered tier, from its VMware Advantage Partner Program, leaving three tiers, Pinnacle, Premier and Select.
The move is part of a strategy to remove low-volume partners who have little activity and are not keeping up with VMware’s evolving private cloud journey.
Members of the Partner Program affected by the changes have been given two months’ notice.
However, the move is likely to spur some VMware partners to seek alternatives, with one commenting that business had dropped since Broadcom’s acquisition, and another broadcaster stating it would move business to Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s VM Essentials virtualization solution.
While the disruption to users and partners remains to be seen, the move does align with VMware’s own partner strategy and focuses on deeper collaboration with fewer but more committed partners.
