Chinese modder Shu Chan has created the ‘iPadBook’, a device that combines elements of Apple’s iPad Pro and M1 MacBook Air, allowing users to switch between iPadOS and macOS.
The device utilises magnetism; a custom-designed hinge printed with a 3D printer allows an iPad Pro to be attached to the MacBook Air, with 12 magnets to hold the display in place.
The iPad Pro can be used as a touchscreen display for the MacBook Air, or as a standard M4-powered iPad Pro when removed from the hinge.
Chan’s design includes a custom case for the iPad Pro, for when it is used separately from the MacBook Air.
While Apple showed no interest in merging iPadOS and macOS, or bringing its desktop operating system to its touchscreen tablet, Chan’s design may appeal to those who desire such functionalities.
