Midea is recalling its U-shaped air conditioners because of potential mold growth
1 min read
Summary
Midea has recalled nearly 1.8m of its U and U Plus window air conditioners sold in the US and Canada due to a mould risk.
The CPSC has received 152 reports of mould and 17 reports of consumers experiencing symptoms, with reactions ranging from respiratory infections to allergic reactions.
The appliances, which were sold under various brand names, allow windows to close with the unit installed, reducing the noise made when they are running.
However, this design feature sometimes prevents water from draining, causing mould to form.
Midea has offered to arrange a free repair for those affected, either by scheduling a technician or by sending a DIY kit, or consumers can opt for a partial refund.
Consumers are advised to inspect instructions on Midean’s website before continuing use of the product.
