Summary

  • Ahead of the Switch 2’s arrival on June 5, Nintendo has updated its Parental Controls app to allow managers of the app to limit and manage access to the GameChat feature and to find out more information about the games being played by the child using the app.
  • In order to video chat using GameChat, players under 16 must have their contacts approved by their guardian or parent and will need reapproveation every time they wish to chat.
  • The app allows parents and guardians to add specific notes about whom their child is chatting with for easy reference, and provides a detailed history of players’ GameChat usage.
  • The app update also allows for easier uploading of screenshots and videos to a mobile device, as well as expanded functionality for the new Switch editions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
