Former head of design at Apple, Jony Ive, has criticized products from his soon-to-be competitors in the AI hardware market, the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1, calling them “very poor products”.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Ive, who is now working with OpenAI to produce an AI gadget, claimed the products lacked “new ways of thinking expressed in products”, and that while many large technology companies have developed advanced AI models, few have created interfaces for humans to interact with AI.
Startup Rabbit, creators of the R1, issued a statement in response, saying it was an ” honour” to be mentioned by Ive and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, but that it did not wish to be compared to Humane, which had been acquired and shut down.
The company also said it looked forward to competing with Ive and OpenAI, and learning from the design veteran.
