Summary
Segway has issued a recall for 220,000 Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP electric scooters after receiving 68 reports of failures involving the folding mechanism on the handlebars causing falls and 20 injuries ranging from bruises to broken bones.
The scooters were on sale since January 2020 at retailers including Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target, Sam’s Club and Amazon.
Consumers are being urged to stop using the scooters immediately but Segway is not offering replacements, instead the company is offering free maintenance kits to adjust the folding mechanism and tighten it to avoid looseness that can lead to the bars folding while riding.
It is also offering instructions on how to keep the mechanism locked.
