How China’s Propaganda and Surveillance Systems Really Operate

Summary
Leaked documents from Chinese censorship company Geedge Networks have disclosed the firm supplies “digital authoritarianism as a service” to at least four nations, offering a commercialised version of China’s Great Firewall to governments in Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Ethiopia and Myanmar.
The documents highlight the firm’s capabilities to hack, monitor and intercept internet traffic, and show how it partners with academic institutions, customises its offerings to meet different clients’ needs, and leverages competitors’ leftover infrastructure.
Another Chinese firm, GoLaxy, which uses AI to analyse social media and generate propaganda material also came to light this week, following the publication of a 399-page document leak.
The company is labelled as the number one brand in intelligence big data analysis in China, servicing the Chinese Communist Party, government and military, yet it still has to go after government agencies like any private company.
