Defense Department Scrambles to Pretend It’s Called the War Department

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order restoring the name of the US military’s leadership to the “Department of War”, which was changed to the “Department of Defense” in 1949, soon after the second world war.
The move, which the president said was about attitude and emphasising a winning mentality, would also require a costly rebrand of the Pentagon.
The US’ allies in Congress have introduced a bill to back the change, but the administration is looking for a workaround in order to implement the name change, possibly using emergency powers.
The Department of War’s Facebook, Instagram and X accounts have already been changed to reflect the rebrand.
