Summary
The US Department of Homeland Security has awarded a $30,000 contract to a company owned by the brother of Republican congressman Nick LaLota to provide sniper and combat training.
Target Down Group, based in Virginia, will provide a five-day course to the Homeland Security Investigations’ Special Response Team, to “equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively conduct law enforcement sniper operations in high-risk environments,” according to records reviewed by Wired.
The contract was awarded on a sole-source basis, with officials citing the company’s prior work with Homeland Security and its links to police in Arizona.
LaLota, who served on the House Homeland Security Committee in the last congressional session, could not be reached for comment.
