Summary
Researchers have discovered a massive security flaw in the Securam ProLogic locking system used by popular safe brands including Liberty Safe, Fort Knox and High Noble.
The problem allows an attacker to generate the master code for any safe with aSecuram ProLogic lock in seconds using a bespoke computer program.
James Rowley and Mark Omo will reveal their discovery on 16 September at the Defcon hacker conference in Las Vegas.
The duo got involved with uncovering the vulnerability after becoming intrigued by reports that law enforcement was able to access a suspect’s safe with a warrant.
Their findings could spell trouble for many firms that use the Securam locks to securely store cash and other valuables.
Securam has responded to the claims, but has made no move to fix the issues and instead recommends that customers buy new locks.
