Adoption Agency Data Exposure Revealed Information About Children and Parents
1 min read
Summary
Data breach hunter Jeremiah Fowler discovered a huge cache of sensitive information relating to the US adoption process on a public database at the end of June.
He notified the database owner, Texas-based nonprofit the Gladney Center for Adoption, but received no response.
The database was secured a few hours after his second notification, suggesting the organisation had been previously unaware of the breach.
The exposed data included details such as the identities of children’s birth parents, medical and mental health records, Child Protective Services interactions and court documents relating to the adoption process, as well as the more standard personally identifiable information.
It is not known whether any bad actors have accessed the data.
