This week, justice officials in the US announced they had arrested one American in connection with a North Korean IT scam, while a further six are alleged to have enabled such activity, according to the US Justice Department.
Officials also shut down 29 laptop farms, seized 200 computers and seizeddomain names and financial accounts as they moved against the schemes used by the IT workers who infiltrate Western businesses.
In other news, US officials warned that the Scattered Spider hacking group, which has previously targeted retailers, insurers, and airlines, is back anditalready caused chaos this year; and there are continued concerns over cell-site simulators, with Android set to introduce new warnings about non-encrypted networks that collect call metadata, location information and other traffic.
Also this week, it was revealed that an Iranian group that targeted the Trump campaign in the lead-up to last year’s presidential election has re-emerged and is threatening to leak more material; the US has claimed the threat is a foreign power attempting to smear the Trump campaign.
Finally, a deepfaking platform allegedly used to create non-consensual images of women has been detailed in leaks and is claimed to have a multimillion-euro budget.
