Tech website Wired has advised US protesters to think about their digital security as well as their physical safety asthe country sees an increase in demonstrations against the Trump administration.
It recommends that people attending protests should leave their main mobile phone at home and only use burner phones or rarely used backup phones instead, with all communication encrypted.
Protestors should also avoid using biometric unlocking methods such as fingerprints or facial recognition to unlock phones, using a long PIN code instead.
Masking your face with masks or face paint, and wearing sunglasses could help avoid identification via facial recognition, and wearing neutral clothing without logos could avoid tracking via automatic licence plate readers.
It also warned that social media posts about protests could provide identification, with photos and videos of fellow protestors potentially providing masses of information about who was at the event.
