Social Media Is Now a DIY Alert System for ICE Raids

Summary
Los Angeles-based non-profit The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (Chirla) has estimated that in a recent series of raids, around 300 migrants were detained by immigration officials.
The raids are said to be in response to an order issued by the Trump administration, and activist groups say they are a warning for the escalating actions which are expected to last for at least 30 days.
Chirla has said that the majority of those detained are not criminals and that the recent actions are a phenomenon “never seen before”.
Alongside the expected escalation of actions, there are fears that due process is being violated and that access to legal representation is being restricted.
In response, various grassroots movements have arisen, using social media to watch immigration authorities and alert immigrants to their presence and operations.
Digital networks are also providing legal guidance on immigration issues as well as labour rights, health access and education.
