Hacking Insights: Gaining Access to University of Hyderabad Ganglia Dashboard
1 min read
Summary
A Twitter post about the Ganglia dashboard piqued the author’s curiosity as they were unfamiliar with it.
Ganglia is a scalable and distributed system used to monitor high-performance computing (HPC) systems, clusters and networks, capturing live or recorded statistics on CPU load averages and network utilisation across many nodes.
Searching Shodan using the term “Ganglia” revealed a Cluster Report belonging to xyz.uohyd.ac.in, with the University of Hyderabad subsequently identified as operating the system.
Interestingly, there is no built-in authentication mechanism for accessing the Ganglia dashboard, meaning essentially anyone can assess how multiple computer systems are performing.
The author highlights this as an opportunity to learn more about an organisation for those using Ganglia, and general comments on securing accessible systems.
