Betanet: The “Censorship-Free” Internet That Could Change the Web Forever
1 min read
Summary
BetaNet is a new decentralised and censorship-resistant network from developers Raven, designed to work on top of the existing internet.
Running as an additional overlay network, BetaNet traffic appears similar to standard web traffic, making it hard to distinguish from normal internet browsing activity.
As an example of its capabilities, the developers pointed to the recent flooding of social media sites in Iran, where many sites such as Instagram were blocked for several days, and noted that BetaNet would ensure such sites remained accessible.
“We are creating a robust and scalable solution to censorship that anyone in the world can use without having to worry about blocking of any kind,” said K0, the lead developer of Raven.
