2025 Pet Hacks Contest: Loko Tracks Fido with LoRa and GPS
1 min read
Summary
The Loko device is a combination GPS and LoRa tracker that weighs just 12g and measures 30mm x 23mm, making it ideal for use in pet collars to track dogs and other animals.
It has a range of up to 15km and a battery life of up to 270 days, depending on how frequently it updates its location.
The hardware is based on the Wio-E5 LoRa module from Seeed and is programmed using MicroPython.
It pairs with a mobile phone app, although the code for this is apparently not available at present.
The device is available to purchase from SeeedStudio and was originally designed as a backup locator for lost drones.
Pet owners could also use the Loko tracker to track pets’ daily movements and activities to build up a picture of their fitness and health, as well as their location.
