Bill was gifted a sound system with good speakers but damage that would make many people discard it, but he managed to fix it and improve it using a ESP8266 and later ESP32 to replace its broken remote control via a modified I2C protocol.
The original AC power cable had been cut off, and a connector inside the unit was also loose.
Cheap studio monitors given to another hacker malfunctioned due to a swollen capacitor in the PSU, with the resultant fire also destroying the pins of the amps.
After replacing the PSU capacitor and substituting the charred boards with new ones, the speakers now sound ok but could benefit from a treble boost.
