Solar power has made its way to the seas in the form of an electric catamaran which is also fitted with solar panels providing an extra 600 watts of power and shade for passengers underneath.
The catamaran’s polished electric drivetrain also includes an electric hoist to raise and lower the canopy, and replaces the trampoline with a pair of seats.
As energy density increases and the cost of solar panels decreases, an increasing number of watercraft are expected to use solar propulsion.
Other examples in the past include solar kayaks, solar houseboats and custom-built catamarans.
However, some believe that relying on solar power on the seas may not be as eco-friendly as using the wind since the production of solar panels has high emissions.
