With thousands of dollars worth of food in his freezer, Jeff, like any person, needed to ensure nothing happened to it.
As there were no commercial offerings available to him, he opted for a DIY solution, building a temperature monitor for his freezer.
This build bypasses the usual requirement of an internet connection or cloud storage, instead linking to his Home Assistant setup.
Since building his monitor, Jeff notes that some products have emerged for sale that fit the niche application, but he still appreciates the customised solution which avoids issues such as proprietary software, subscriptions or cloud services.
Hackaday appreciates the build, whilst also highlighting a previous article covering the restoration of a $700k freezer.
