The MiSTer open-source project offers the ability to emulate a huge range of computers and consoles on a single FPGA platform, but assembly and configuration can be intimidating for newcomers.
Steps are being taken to make it more accessible, with UK-based manufacturer Heber now offering the Mr. Multisystem 2, a plug-and-play FPGA console that is fully compatible with MiSTer.
It features a range of outputs, as well as internal USB headers, Meanwell PSU support and the option for an NFC reader to mimic cartridge-based games.
It is available in both digital and analogue editions, with the latter supporting native RGB output.
Described by one reviewer as “an open-source, multi-system super console for the noob-friendly ages”, it could broaden the user base for the MiSTer project.
