Tech Minds has created a web browser-based radio application that makes use of WebUSB, bypassing the need to download any additional software.
While this is a positive step, there are several requirements that users must meet to access the application, including having the correct USB drivers for RTL-SDR and ensuring their browser supports WebUSB, meaning Chromium-style browsers.
Additionally, users may need to grant their system access to the USB port.
Tech Minds’ web application is open source, but it doesn’t compare to a full SDR programme.
That being said, for many users, it is still more accessible than mainstream options.
While Firefox users can’t access WebUSB directly, they can manipulate the code to add WebUSB support using a special USB device.
Ultimately, no matter how adept users are at maintaining their own privacy, Google will likely still be able to access their data.
