The Arduinio open source electronics platform designed to make interactive projects is being used in ever more progressive ways to benefit the world, with one example being ‘popup’ roving playgrounds that are wirelessly connected to enable users to take over an area and turn it into a playground using a basic set up which has been trialled with success with both children and adults.
Another example is a light-up seesaw which has led to children playing outside and attracting neighbourly attention in a way that had not occurred before.
The rise of such community-oriented hacks is leading to a call for more focus on improving neighbourhoods and outdoor spaces to encourage interaction between the increasing numbers of people who are becoming more engrossed in online activities.
This shift is also leading some to call for more collating of user and community data to allow such improvements to be made in a way that genuinely enhances users’ enjoyment of their surroundings.
