Eivind has built a PC capable of running Windows 98 and DOS-based games, as the modern hardware, software and operating systems no longer support these.
Emulation remains a popular solution, however, for those who want to use the original hardware the ISA bus, which featured on PCs of this era, is no longer available in modern machines.
This custom build uses the Vortex86EX system-on-module, which features a 32-bit x86 processor and therefore is able to run software built for DOS, as well as having the ISA capability to enable sound cards and other accessories from this time.
The motherboard uses a Crystal CS4237B chip connected to the ISA bus to perfectly replicate a SoundBlaster card, while expansion ports can add additional sound cards, including ones with Yamaha OPL chips.
This new build also features a serial port, virtual floppy drive and microSD card reader to make it interact with modern machines.
