Summary

  • A Norwegian DIYer has made a device that jams Bluetooth signals, but which will probably not stop modern Bluetooth devices like phones from connecting to Wi-Fi, as it is designed to do, according to Hackaday.
  • The device takes advantage of the fact that many cheap Bluetooth devices do not use spread spectrum and have poor error recovery on their connections, and so can often be jammed by a device transmitting at the same frequency and with sufficient power.
  • However, the device used in this instance is a DIY job, and relies on a souped-up Wi-Fi transmitter and a pair of Yagi antennas, and is therefore probably illegal as well as uneffective at actually blocking modern Bluetooth signals, owing to its relatively narrow bandwidth.
