Summary

  • A 3D printing enthusiast has repurposed one of his numerous 3D printers into a robotic camera rig that provides him with smooth and dynamic photography and videography capabilities.
  • Having initially set out to create a photogrammetry rig to take multiple photos of static objects, the creator decided to use a old Creality Ender 3 3D printer he had laying around to achieve motion control using the printer’s existing stepper motors, gears and rails to create a new camera motion control rig.
  • The printer’s X-axis now enables the camera to tilt 90 degrees in either direction, while the Y-axis allows the camera to move backward and forward; the Z-axis has been adapted to enable the camera to move up and down.
  • The extruder motor now rotates the target object on a turntable to allow the camera to capture dynamic images and videos.
