Tecumseh gasoline-powered lawnmower engines are not766 particularly robust or efficient pieces of machinery, but an engineer called Jimbo has found a way to convert one into a diesel-driven hot bulb engine, simply by inserting a series of anti-fouling adapters into the combustion chamber, and running the diesel fuel through the normal fuel line.
Anti-fouling adapters are used in engines that run on bunker fuel, which is petroleum-based and dirty; the adapters extend the length of the combustion chamber so that the spark plug is further away from the greasy residue left in the chamber, and so it remains clean.
In this instance, Jimbo uses seven adapters, which create sufficient volume in the chamber to generate enough heat to cause the fuel to combust without the aid of a spark.
Although the conversion is not particularly practical or efficient, the engine runs well on a variety of different fuels, including methanol, acetone and even hand sanitizer.
