Texas’ Right to Repair Bill is a Signature Away From Becoming Law
1 min read
Summary
Texas has approved a new bill, HB 2963, which, if signed into law, would strengthen consumers’ ‘Right to Repair’ by forcing manufacturers of digital electronic equipment to make spare parts, documentation and repair tools available to consumers and independent repair shops.
It would, however, exempt game consoles, boats, cars, tractors and home appliances.
This is the ninth US state to approve such legislation and the seventh pertaining to consumer electronics.
Manufacturers would also be prevented from overcharging for the parts and documentation.
The bill includes anti-parts pairing language, which was removed from a similar bill in Oregon.
