Stephen Coyle has created a talking tape dispenser, influenced by the popular 90s sitcom, Father Ted.
This is the second version he has made, having previously used a Raspberry Pi to create a voice-enabled dispenser, this time he has used an ESP8266 and designed an all-new 3D printed model.
He has also replaced the rotary encoder with a custom encoder, employing a photodiode and LED to measure the tape that is pulled from the dispenser.
The device calculates the length of tape pulled out and announces it through the speaker.
This is not the only prop recreation Stephen has made, he has also previously built a working version of the Demolitionist from the video game Destiny.
