A new model has been created by electronics designer [Sam Ben-Yaakov] which makes it possible for coupled inductors to be moved around like sliders on a synth, without changing the external behaviour.
The core idea is a new degree of magnetic leakage, giving designers more flexibility in designing transformers, converters and filters with asymmetric behaviour.
While modelling is often seen as a less practical task than actually building physical circuits, [Sam Ben-Yaakov]‘s previous work has shown the value of these theoretical approaches, especially when testing edge cases or explaining inductive quirks.
The new model could therefore be a useful addition to the toolkits of many designers and engineers.
