For those who are into music production or sound engineering, a reverb is a standard effect that can be created via a metal plate and supporting electronics.
All that is required is a transducer to deliver the sound into the metal plate, and a microphone to collect it again, further down the plate; the time it takes for the sound to travel gives that signature reverb effect.
One engineer uses a one-meter-wide, two-meter-tall cold-rolled steel plate, hung up by a picture chain, with repurposed old car tweeters and a larger speaker to drive the sound.
It’s the EQ and electronics that make the difference, preventing the sound from resembling that from a tin can.
This could be a fun DIY project for creatives during the holiday break.
