Summary

  • The Openmovement foundation has made its watch designs open source, and available to download in STEP file format.
  • The 3.5Hz, 25,200 vph watch was developed to be easily serviceable, robust and modular, and suited to watchmakers in training.
  • While the design is open source, the Openmovement foundation is currently running a crowdfunding campaign to produce kits of the OM10 watch.
  • The campaign allows users to pledge enough to receive a kit, which will comprise all the tiny parts required to assemble the watch.
  • The OM10 uses a “Swiss pallets escapement” (a translation of lever escapement), and an OM20 is also in development.
  • Those without the equipment to finely machine brass from the STEP files can still get involved with the project by pledging enough to receive a kit.
