A user on the Reddit tech forum has told how they designed their own remote-controlled (RC) race car from scratch, rather than buying one off the shelf.
Known as ‘The Lizard’, the little car takes its design cues from Formula 1 and has a rear-wheel-drive layout and suspension for ultimate speed and handling.
Most of the car is 3D printed in PETG, including the body and gearbox, while the suspension is made from TPU for flexibility and resistance to impact.
Commercial off-the-shelf wheels are used to House the DC motor brushed and lithium polymer battery, while an ESP32 receives commands from a bespoke RC controller that runs the same microcontroller.
The car looks sleek and handles well, achieving a top speed of 48km/h when tested.
