2025 Pet Hacks Challenge : Poopopticon Is All Up In Kitty’s Business
1 min read
Summary
A Smart home hobbyist has built a device that alerts him when his flatmate’s cat uses the litter box, before any unwanted odour has a chance to occur.
Called the “Poopopticon”, the device uses a simpleInfrared (IR) sensor similar to those used in line-following robots, to detect the cat’s presence, and sends a message via a webhook to either a Twitch chat monitor or a large scrolling banner, to tell the roommate to change the litter box.
As the entire project was assembled with spare parts found in his workshop, the builders hopes his innovation will earn him a ‘low budget’ award in a recent Hackaday competition.
