Stamp: Modular Breakout Boards for SMD Prototyping

Indian hardware startup Sci otronics is looking to speed up and simplify the SMD prototyping process via its newStamp modular platform, which has surpassed its Kickstarter target.
Aiming to eliminate the use of breadboards, jum pers and custom PCBs, Stamp uses reusable template boards that allow supporting SMD components to be placed on the back of the main component on the front, creating a modular and reconfigurable approach to building circuits.
Although the designs will beopen sourced, some PC manufacturers may not have the facilities to make the special castellated edges found on some Stamps.
While the Stamp notion has promise, critics have queried whether it is a solution looking for a problem, and noted that the current cost of the product is relatively high when compared to traditional PCB manufacturing.
