Blogger Simon automated the opening and closing of his blinds using a motor, a magnetic encoder and 3D printed parts, all secured with silicone tubing and tape to reduce vibration, in a weekend project.
He wanted the blinds to open slowly and silently, so as not to disturb the peace in his home and to attract attention to his chosen method of opening and closing.
The hardest part was the mechanical installation, with Simon advising others to consider alternatives to the magnetic encoder he used, as it was difficult to align.
Automation of blinds is becoming increasingly popular, with previous Hackaday posts covering the subject, offering options for renters and those who want to avoid making permanent modifications to a property.
