NASA Is Shutting Down the International Space Station Sighting Website

As of 12 June 2025, NASA will be removing sightings information from its Spot the Station website, instead directing users to download a mobile app.
It is hoped the move, which comes as a disappointment to many users, will boost traffic to the app, but it also raises questions about browser accessibility and the so-called “app-ification of the WWW”.
The iOS and Android apps will offer users the chance to sign up for alerts about when the International Space Station will be visible in their locality, but the move has prompted criticism from those who do not have a smartphone, or who prefer not to use apps.
