Making a Backyard Observatory Complete With Retractable Roof
1 min read
Summary
Within the Hackaday community, there is a burgeoning astronomy contingent.
This recent tip from Joshua (who has their own YouTube channel called Arrow) shows a homemade observatory with a retractable roof and space for two telescopes.
There are some impressive timelapse videos on their channel showing the build progress, and it looks like it was a lot of work but very satisfying to achieve.
It is somewhat reminiscent of the Backyard Observatory which we covered here in 2021.
Additional readings for astronomy enthusiasts could include telescope-making and the highest altitude infrared telescope.
The retractable roof mechanism is a sensible and cost-effective solution for astronomy buffs who want to imaging the skies from a light-controlled environment, and it looks very impressive.
