Summary

  • An HDMI output board for the Commodore 64 (C64) computer has been designed by Side Projects Lab, based on work by Copper Dragon.
  • With an interleaver socket, the device intercepts digital signals to the VIC II graphics chip, which are then sent to an emulated VIC II running in an FPGA to produce high quality HDMI output.
  • As well as providing an HDMI output, the device also captures the analog audio output from the SID chip, which is then sent via HDMI.
  • The output is sharp, however it can also be configured with scanlines and anti-aliasing if desired.
  • The device doesn’t address the VDC bug that some say can lock up the computer, and it is yet to be seen if it could be used with a Commodore 128.
