A Crookes tube was the first type of electron beam-forming vacuum tube of glass.
They were invented by Sir William Crookes in the late 19th century and were generally used for particle studies and as demonstration devices to show off cathode rays.
Markus Bindhammer of the YouTube channel MarbScientific has posted a video in which the antique piece of lab equipment is given a new lease of life with the addition of a wooden stand, and by applying some savvy to get it to work.
Those interested in trying something similar might find Crookes tubes on AliExpress, though as of this writing they cannot be found under that name.
