A version of the classic 1990s FPS game Doom has been made to run on the Atari ST, a home computer that was popular in the 1980s and 1990s but is scarcely used now.
The port, which is called STDOOM, was made possible through the efforts of programmer indyjonas, who had the childhood goal of getting the game to work on the platform.
Despite the efforts required to make it compatible, the port does work, and can be made to run on a stock Atari ST with only 4MB of RAM, displaying in the computer’s native graphics modes.
The port does lack sound, and the original 8MHz machines are not powerful enough to run it fluency, but it is a testament to the programmer’s skill and dedication.
