Two merging galaxies have been discovered by astronomers which they have dubbed the Infinity Galaxy due to the shape of the galaxies coming together in the form of the number eight.
The scientists and researchers are intrigued by the find due to the likely presence of a supermassive black hole.
This is significant as it may provide the first real world example of a primordial supermassive black hole, which have yet to be observed in the universe.
The discovery was made using the James Webb Space Telescope and further analysed using the Chandra X-ray Observatory.
Scientists are yet to determine the exact nature of the find, with one saying “we can’t say definitively that we have found a direct collapse black hole”.
