In an article published in Wired, David Romine suggests five physics equations that everyone should know, despite the fact that many people believe that they will never need to apply physics in their daily lives.
Romine begins with Newton’s second law of motion, which is perhaps the most famous equation and is used to calculate the motion of daily drivers such as cars and rockets.
He also selects equations on waves, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics and special relativity and explains the background to each equation and why they are relevant.
For example, he cites Einstein’s famous equation E=mc^2, stating that “It’s also the most important. I do like to eat stuff”.
