Social media company Meta has announced a 20-year deal with energy company Constellation to use the Clinton Clean Energy Centre in Illinois as part of its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint.
The deal will enable the plant to continue operating after its scheduled closure in 2027 and carry out updates that will increase its energy output.
Meta has said it will purchase an undisclosed amount of clean energy attributes to match a portion of its electricity use.
The company is aiming to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and is looking to develop advanced nuclear reactor technologies to power its AI data centres.
Constellation has said it is considering the development of an advanced nuclear reactor at the Clinton site.
