In the latest salvo to be launched against the Trump administration’s backing of fossil fuels, a group of 22 young Americans are suing for an injunction to stop executive orders that promote the use of fossil fuels.
The lawsuit, filed in a US district court in Montana, claims that such actions increase pollution and infringe the Fifth Amendment rights to life and liberty of the younger generation.
Two of the complainants, brothers aged 11 and 7, claim that they have suffered health problems as a result of increased wildfire smoke in the atmosphere, a consequence, the lawsuit claims, of the Trump administration’s climate policy.
The lawsuit claims that Trump’s efforts to impede climate research and remove data relating to climate change violate the complainants’ rights and constitute censorship.
