Summary
Tesla has revealed a new “Megablock”, a pre-engineered, plug-and-play, utility-scale battery configuration for faster installation, and therefore lower construction costs for power companies.
The Megablock incorporates Tesla’s Megapack 3, which was also announced at the same event.
Megapack 3 has a simplified thermal bay with 78% fewer connections to minimise failure, using a Tesla Model Y heat pump on steroids.
Megapack 3 will be manufactured in Houston from late next year.
Tesla still uses Chinese battery manufacturers, BYD and CATL to supply its cells.
