Summary
The Revolution Wind project, off the coast of Rhode Island, has been ordered to halt construction, despite being 80% complete.
The order comes from the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), on the grounds of national security concerns and interference with potential uses of the area.
It is the second such project to be stopped by BOEM within the last year.
The project, which is set to provide power for 350,000 homes, was due to come online in 2024.
Developers Ørsted are evaluating their legal options and have stated they remain “committed to developing offshore wind in the US”.
