Trump’s AI plan is a massive handout to gas and chemical companies

The White House last week released the Trump administration’s AI Action Plan, which also included a series of executive orders focused on reducing regulations for AI and other technologies in the US.
But within the plan are a range of requests that would limit environmental protections and increase the country’s reliance on fossil fuels, according to energy reporter Justine Calma.
The plan includes requests for natural gas turbines, coal power equipment, nuclear power equipment, geothermal power equipment and other dispatchable electricity sources, essentially excluding intermittent renewables like solar and wind power.
In addition, the White House is seeking to fast-track permitting for new data centres and semiconductor factories by limiting environmental impact statements and federal oversight at Superfund sites.
“This is an energy idiot agenda,” energy programme director at Public Citizen, Tyson Slocum, said.
