Summary
A new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has offered further detail on the development struggles behind Dragon Age: The Guardian of the Veil.
The game was rewritten following a switch from being designed for multiplayer back to a single-player format.
This switch meant developers had to work on a game with a number of vestigial features from its previous format.
Players who tested the game towards the end of 2022 felt that choices and consequences in the game were not up to previous standards.
This was partly attributed to the game being designed with multiplayer elements.
Following the revelation of the game’s banter being too snarky, it had to be rewritten to sound more serious.
There were also issues with cultural clashes between teams at BioWare and issues with the direction given by publisher EA.
Following the game’s release and the subsequent layoffs at BioWare, a smaller team is working on Mass Effect 5, with questions still lingering over the future of the studio.
